3D Snowman Assembly Tutorial

Here's a roll-y friend just set for a frolic in the winter cold!
(And to think he was "born" in Texas!)
He is one of a series of fun and fast slice-form figures
that will add a little magic to your holiday crafting.
Follow these easy steps and he'll be
ready before you know it.

Step 1. Identify the cut shapes used to put the snowman together:
A: front side right and front side left
B: front right center and front left center
C: carrot nose     D: face base shape
E: eye pupils    F: "coal" smiles
G: back pieces (interchangeable)
H: earmuffs

Step 2. Begin the face assembly by attaching eye pupils at bottom
of the eye area, and the coal smile over matching base shape.
Fold nose along center perforation as "mountain" or outward fold.

Step 3. Fold the nose extension of the face assemble outward
until it is at a right angle to the center support.
Glue the carrot nose over the nose extension.

Here you can see how the carrot nose
fits over the extension.

Step 4. Study and arrange the body parts
as shown by this overhead view of their final arrangement.
The front body shapes below correspond to the
A-B-B-A
arrangement as diagrammed above.
Step 5. Fold the front four body shapes on center
perforations as "valley" or inward folds.
Lay the four shapes in order to match the layout
shown above Step 1.

Step 6. Attach each A to its adjacent B body shape
by gluing the surfaces the line up together, as shown here
(one representative side shown).

Step 7. Align and join the two front "halves".

Step 8. Arrange and join the four G back pieces in
a similar manner.
Step 9. Join the front and back halves.

Step 10. Identify the face tab extensions
on the center side body extensions.

Step 11. Glue the smile ends to the face tabs.
Step 12. Glue the earmuff over the similar
shape extensions on the head sides.

Here is how your snowman looks when completed.

3D Penguin Assembly Tutorial

This perky little fellow will take the chill off any winter day!
Follow the tutorial steps here and see how easily
and quickly he goes together.
Before you know it, you'll have a platoon of penguins
greeting you from a mantle or shelf.

Step 1. Identify the cut pieces that you will need.
A. right side front body, and left side front body
B. center right front body and center left front body
C. center front right and left tummy accent pieces
D. eye pupils piece
E. eye whites piece
F. beak piece
G. back body pieces (interchangeable positions)

Step 2. Complete the face assembly.

Bend each side half downward slightly at perforation.
Bend the tabs as shown:
center two upward,
side two downward.

Attach the pupils, centered, on the eye whites.

Align the base edge of the eye whites assembly
with the back edge of the beak. Make sure it is centered,
then apply glue and attach the tabs to the eye whites back side.

Step 3. Identify the tummy accent pieces with their
corresponding center front right or left body piece.
(These instructions will indicate the PENGUIN's left or right).
NOTE that the  wide half of the tummy piece should align
under the tab.
Fold each of the pieces as "valley" folds (right sides together),

Step 4. Prepare to fold and assemble the body pieces.
This diagram shows an overhead view of how
the identified body pieces will be placed.
Fold edges will meet at the center.
As you look at this graphic, the 'A' body piece
that is on the left half of the circle will be
the RIGHT A side front body piece,
and the 'A' body piece that is on the right half of the circle
will be the LEFT A side front body piece.
This reversal holds true for the B center front body pieces.

Step 5. Fold each of the front (A & B) body pieces as "valley" folds,
then organize them according to the graphic in Step 4.
Apply glue to the back side surfaces
that will come together, as shown here.
NOTE that the two tab edges are between the "plain" center layers,
and the arms are each un-layered at each side.

Step 6. Position and glue the tummy accent pieces in place
as they were arranged in Step 3.

Step 7. Fold, arrange and glue the aligning surfaces
of the 4 G back body pieces.

Step 8. Position the face assembly at the center of
the front head area. NOTE how the side tabs of the beak
will rest on the side tabs of the B body pieces.

Fold the beak side tabs into place and glue to body tabs.

This is how your finished assembly should look.
The final touch is to dress him in his neck scarf.
We used a bit of red ribbon.
If you have yarn, a few strand
of that will work. Or braid three strands,
knot off, and wrap around his neck.
(Surprised at how easy that was?)

Winter wonderland 3D centerpieces

So I'm working on a new 3D tutorial tonight. It's for this wonderful design:

The snowglobe above and the snowflake ornaments below both use 3 interlocking shapes as opposed to four interlocking shapes that previous 3D designs have had. You may be able to put them together on your own if you have experience with our previous shapes, if not, stay tuned and I'll have a new tutorial for these two shapes for you!
Speaking of ornaments, here are some new lacey snowflake ornament designs that would be great added to a card or made up into ornaments for your tree. There are a total of 4 in the whole set. This is #2 and #3.

Well, here in the States, we are about to celebrate Thanksgiving where we express what we are thankful for and lots of turkey! What a great holiday! We don't have any family around and can't travel around holidays because of my hubbies job, so our Thanksgiving will consist of our three toddlers, my hubby and I and the new babe. I think we just might have a few leftovers.
So, here's a fun little turkey if you haven't seen him. He would be great as a centerpiece or slide a card in the slots that keep him together and create a placecard that is sure to get everyone's attention!

Happy Thanksgiving week and enjoy!
