Tutorial: BOO! Boxes

This is a tutorial for the BOO! boxes that are part of the Halloween Soiree kit at SVG Attic.  They are also available in the Silhouette store at these numbers:  32809328083280732806.  The tutorial below is for the second "O" which is #32807.

These are the box pieces.  I cut them out of patterned cardstock.  These are the pieces you receive if you purchase the boxes through the Silhouette store.  There is an accent letter piece that is included in the SVG Attic version of these boxes, but it is not pictured above.  I cut the accent letter piece out of black glitter paper.  Tip:  The black glitter cardstock I used was from DCWV's Glitzy Glitter 12x12 paper stack.  It cut perfectly with my Cameo and the glitter didn't flake off.

First bend all of the perforated score lines away from you.

Next add liquid adhesive on the bottom flap of the box front.

Adhere it to the other box piece at the end without the curve cut out.

Apply liquid adhesive to the flaps on the first side, one flap at a time.

Press each flap firmly against the side of the box.

Continue with the second flap

and adhere this is what the first side looks like when adhered together.

Flip the box over to the opposite side and add liquid adhesive to both of the flaps.

Press the box side onto the flaps lining up the edges.

This is a side view of what your box should look like now.  Make sure the side flaps of the box are bent inward

and close the lid.  This is what the side/rear view of the box will look like.

This is the front view with a battery operated tea light inside.

Finally add the decorative letter piece to the front lining it up with the letter on the box base.

Here is a look at all four of the completed BOO! boxes.

I hope you have a wonderfully crafty day!

3D Apple Box

Welcome to our blog!

We are starting this week with this super cute and creative 3D box created by Lisa so perfect for a teacher appreciation gift as we near the end of school.

I love how creatively she added the fish candy in two colors to give it the perfect color level of red and green to the apple window.

I am back as promised to share some tips on how I made my pretty flowers go from flat to fabulous!

This was flat:
The leaves:
First, I inked the leaves using distress ink, but you can use any chalk ink as well. Note that I only inked the edges so that I would not see the paper's white core. I did not want to change the color of the leaves. But you may.

Next I pierced tiny holes every 1/8" to add stitching.
Here I hand stitched using a needle and thread.
Below you can see how it looks by drawing a line with a pen following the pierced tiny holes.
Finally I adhered the leaves to the base using dimensional foam and "played/handled" with them or lifted the sides and/or edges with my fingers.
The purple flowers:
Below you see me using the "ball" of the inking tool's handle. This process worked best then using the special tool.  I just went over the center of the flower in a circular motion adding light pressure.
I don't have a picture but I finished the purple flowers by adding a "bling" to the center of each flower.

 The orange flowers:
First I inked them using distress ink.  I used a circular motion starting from the mat "into" the flowers.  This process helps to not leave visible ink marks.  You can see how the color changed by looking at the flower on the bottom right of this picture.
Here again using the handle of my inking tool I was able to give them a "lift".
I used regular glue to adhere the first two layers.  I then added dimensional foam to adhere the third or center layer to the flower.
But I first added the "bling" to the centers.
The white flower:
I used a little bit of distress ink.
I cut strips of dimensional foam to put all the layers together.

I finished them all by adding them to the card using yet more dimensional foam.

And I ended up making them into a set and creating a box to fit them all in and give them as a gift.

3D Present Boxes tutorial

Construction for each size box will be the same.

1. Identify and cut the shapes.

2. These are the shapes needed for the BOX.

3. Fold the "coffin" shaped SIDES shapes
with inward folds on all perforations.

4. Join ends with tab
(shaped ends will be at opposite ends
from the joint).

5. Fold shorter side sections with all inward folds.
Join tab end to center section of previous
side assembly.

This is how the assembly should look at this point.

6. Fold one "shaped" side and two tab sides
upward to form a box,
then glue and attach the tabs to the
adjacent box side edges.

7. Apply glue to the inside bottom "liner" piece . . .

. . . then insert into the bottom of the assembly and secure.

This is how the assembly should look at this point.

8. Attach the tabs of the remaining two side "seams".
Apply adhesive to the inner surfaces of the end "liner squares".

9. Fold each side "liner" into the box completely
until it "snaps" into place against the side and
lower assembly edges.

This is how the box base should look.

10. Construct the LID section in a similar fashion,
joining sections to form a center panel,
then joining the side sections,
folding sides upward and joining tabs to form rim
with reinforcing inner rectangle,
then folding inner sections to the inside of the lid.

11. Fold and attach the "cross" ribbon shape to the lid.

12. Place the lid onto the base.
Attach the side ribbon strips so that they
align with the lid ribbon shape ends.

13. prepare the box. Shape the loop pieces by
"curling" over thumb or fingers.

This is how the loops should look after shaping.

14. Fold side loops over, align and attach end
"rectangle" tabs.

15. Overlap and join end loop tab to end tab
of center loop shape.

16. Overlap and join end tabs of final side loop,
with long end "rectangle" tab extended and folded as shown.

17. Slip the center end tab into place and glue.

18. Bring first loop tab and second tabs together
as shown and glue.

This is how completed bow should appear.
with extending tabs for right and left.

19. Apply glue to tabs, position and align
over "cross" ribbon on lid.

This is how finished lid should appear.

Here is the assembled box with lid in place.
